Spring Clean Your Pantry (and Make Midweek Meals a Breeze)

There’s something about spring that makes you want to sort things out. Windows open. Fresh air in. And suddenly… that chaotic cupboard full of half-used packets and mystery tins at the back is making you twitch!

But here’s the thing… a well-stocked, well-organised pantry isn’t just nice to look at.

It’s the secret to quick, easy, no-fuss meals (and far fewer “what’s for dinner?!” moments).

Let’s give your pantry a spring clean… and ditch those last-minute dashing to the shops.

Why a pantry spring clean matters more than you think

🥗 You can throw together meals in minutes

💸 You waste less food (and money)

🕕 You don’t have to think so hard at 6pm

And the best bit? You don’t need anything fancy - just a few simple tweaks.

Pantry essentials like nuts and dried pasta are always good to have stocked

Your no-faff pantry refresh (in 4 easy steps)

1. The quick clear-out

Start with a fast sweep. Check dates, ditch anything past its best, and rediscover what’s hiding at the back. (This is where the fifth tin of just-in-case-chickpeas makes an appearance.)

2. Go glassy (or just go see-through)

Decant your staples like lentils, rice, nuts into jars or containers. Why? Because when you can see what you’ve got, you'll actually use it. And, no more forgotten ingredients mean no more accidental double-buying.

3. Group like a pro

Give everything a “home”:

✅ Grains together

✅ Beans together

✅ Baking bits together

✅ Snacks (obviously) together

It might sound simple, but it makes cooking so much quicker when you’re not rummaging around.

4. Front-and-centre favourites

Put your most-used ingredients where you can easily grab them: think tinned tomatoes, oats, olive oil, your go-to spices. These are your midweek heroes. Make them easy to reach.

What to actually stock (so meals are easy)

This is where the magic happens… A well-stocked pantry means you’re always just a few ingredients away from a proper meal.

Here’re the kinds of staples that make life easy:

Beans & legumes (your plant-powered heroes)

🫘 Chickpeas, lentils, butter beans, cannellini beans

💚 Packed with protein. Zero fuss - just drain, rinse, and stir through meals.

Grains (the base of everything)

🍚 Rice, quinoa, couscous, oats

💚 They fill you up and go with everything.

Nuts & seeds (small but mighty)

🥜 Almonds, walnuts, flaxseeds, pumpkin seeds

💚 They add crunch, flavour and a nutrition boost to pretty much everything.

Herbs & spices (where the flavour lives)

🌿 Cumin, paprika, cinnamon, oregano, thyme

💚 The difference between “meh” and “make this again”.

The everyday essentials

🥫 Tinned tomatoes, olive oil, dried pasta, vegetable stock, tamari, maple syrup

💚 The building blocks of hundreds of quick, delicious meals.

The secret to stress-free cooking? Stress-free prep!

Here’s what most people get wrong…

🥗 It’s not about meal prepping everything in advance.

🥗 It’s about having the right ingredients ready to go.

Because when your pantry is stocked:

⭐️ Dinner takes 10–20 minutes

⭐️ You don’t need a plan

⭐️ You just start cooking

My pantry favs?

Cooking from a well-stocked pantry is my absolute go-to. I always have jars of Bold Bean Co chickpeas (believe me, beans in a jar a far tastier), Merchant Gourmet packets like Tomatoey French Lentils or Lentil & Chickpea Tagine, quinoa, dried pasta, organic oats and every nut under the sun. I’m also a big fan of dried herbs and spices – they make even the simplest dish taste yum.

No stress. No drama. No “there’s nothing in the house” moments. Just quick, easy, delicious meals - made from what’s already there.

Give your pantry a little spring clean this weekend… and make cooking mid-week meals a breeze 💚
